AKIYO Mini Projector, First Impressions:

- At first, I had a tough time getting this projector to read my external drive and it kept shutting off when I plugged in a USB hub. After a full reboot, that issue was sorted. I grabbed some flash drives and formatted them to FAT32, which the projector liked. Now I can watch shows off a USB, but it’s picky about video file types. I’ll update after I hear back from support.

- Samsung Dex works great with the included HDMI cable. Just hook up your phone/tablet to a USB-C hub, then to HDMI.

- Like most budget projectors, it has some light artifacts.

- Bluetooth has a lag and there's no fix for audio offset.

- Digital zoom is handy, and focusing is pretty straightforward.

- Screen mirroring works fine with Android devices.

- Don’t expect much from the built-in speakers.

- Setup is easy peasy; I read the manual just in case.

- Bluetooth sound is decent, with some adjustments for Bass and Treble, but still a bit flat.

So I got the AKIYO Mini Projector, but it was a dud. The company reached out and offered me a refund or a replacement, so I went with the upgrade for a birthday gift instead of Christmas. I haven't used it yet since the birthday's not here, but I'll update later. The customer service was solid, but the projector? Total letdown. It works for like 5 minutes before a dark spot appears and it shuts off. I've tried everything to fix it—cleaning, cooling down, even trying to not care—and nothing works. And it’s a pain to turn on too! Honestly, skip this if you want anything more than a quick peek at a picture or video.

I got the Yoton Mini Projector to project a spooky Halloween video onto my sheer curtains and it’s awesome! Way better than my old bulky projector that needed a laptop. This little guy is super compact and I can just plug in a USB with the video. It barely takes up any space on my shelf and is super easy to set up each night. I was shocked at how bright it is for its size! Sure, it’s not as bright as a big projector with the lights on, but it does great in the dark. I’m using it to cover two windows about 4 feet apart, and it looks fantastic! The 720p resolution is perfect for what I need, and the keystone correction makes it easy to get the image just right. It looks great in the dark, but the sound is super quiet, even when I hooked it up to a soundbar at full blast—still hard to hear from about 15 feet away.
