Sony and Microsoft have been adopting two different strategies for over a year now. The first remains in the classic with secrets kept until the last moment and a big communication in June, and the second announced its new Xbox very early, with power and specs confirmed quickly. But if there remains an area where Sony currently has a head start, it is at the level of the games presented.
In an interview with Gamesradar , Jason Ronald, responsible for the development of the Xbox Series X, returned to a few key elements that give an advantage to the Xbox Series X, but also spoke about the future games of the machine.
New game categories for Xbox Series X
The launch of a new console is always an opportunity to ask the right questions and to put things flat. With each generation, new gaming franchises are created to give momentum and demonstrate the capabilities of the machines. For Xbox, the launch of the Xbox Series X is no exception, and Microsoft has a far more distant vision than it seems.
On the one hand, that the power of the Xbox Series X will be used to create even more unique and important games. On the other hand, that Microsoft will take advantage of it to diversify its catalog with genres that are not usually represented on Xbox, at least less than among the competition. We can for example think of great adventure games playable alone such as God of War or The Last of Us, but also games from the Asian market, even if great advances have been made on the subject in recent years.
Xbox Series X Power and backward compatibility: remove all barriers
While Sony has adopted a different strategy, Microsoft wants to remove all barriers to play. The Xbox Series X console will be the most powerful available, and several thousand games will run on it when released thanks to backward compatibility .

Speaking of new Xbox Series X game categories , it's hard to understand exactly what Jason Ronald is referring to, but there are two possible scenarios. One of the exciting things about launching a next generation console is that you really set the direction for the next seven to ten years of game development. You will see new categories of games, game experiences never seen before.

The next big step for Microsoft is the Xbox conference in July . That of May was only an aperitif to wait and keep the word, but July will be the real start of the next-gen at Microsoft. We will see there Halo Infinite , but also other novelties, and surprises. We are really focused on the perfect balance between power, speed and compatibility, as you have never seen in previous generations.
At Xbox, when we think about the future of gaming, we really focus on communicating with all players, all over the planet. Give them the ability to play the games they want, with the people they want, on the devices they want - with the console at the center of the living room experience.
As we enter this new generation with the Xbox Series X, we are truly committed to breaking down all the barriers that exist in the ecosystem. This includes things like inter-network play (cross-network play, cdlr) and inter-generational play. The fact that your entire game library - your game history, your game heritage, your progress, your achievements - all move forward with you. And we want to make sure that players can play together, no matter which device they choose to play on. Because, again, we really want all players to be able to play whatever device they're on and have a great shared experience together.
