It is the arrival of VRR support on Xbox One that motivated the writing of this file. Last March, Microsoft announced indeed the upcoming arrival of VRR on all consoles in its range, Xbox One X, Xbox One S and original Xbox One. Each of them embedding AMD GPUs, so it's the FreeSync which is part of it, and even FreeSync 2 (HDR compatible) on One S and One X! And this is excellent news, because as seen previously, due to the use of an open source interface, the FreeSync compatible offer is potentially much more varied and techno more applicable to the TV industry!
Until then reserved for the Insider program, the option, which you will find in the display settings of the console, is part of the spring update whose deployment begins just at the time of writing.
In summary, know that VRR support on Xbox is only available with FreeSync screens, so not with G-Sync screens. This requires a FreeSync compatible screen, or FreeSync 2 if you want to enjoy VRR in HDR on One S and One X, via HDMI 2.0 minimum. Microsoft announces support for 720p and 1080p resolutions across its range, 1440p on One S and One X, and 4K on One X. We said above, the news has just fallen, Microsoft has just announced the arrival next in the Insider program to support 120Hz on Xbox One, but for now only in Full HD and 1440p.
Which VRR compatible screen / monitor to choose?
