An Xbox One update for Xbox Insiders members recently brought to light a mysterious app called "Mercury" available only to certain testers with a "Coming Soon" message. According to WindowsCentral , it would be a redesign of the Xbox Store planned for the near future.
This Mercury application would therefore simply be the code name for an overhaul of the Xbox Store, recreated from scratch on a new architecture and compatible with 4K TVs . This new application for the Xbox Store would target both Xbox One consoles, but also the future Xbox Series X and Xbox Lockhart .
The Xbox Store soon to be fully updated
For the moment, it seems that the design of "Mercury" is very similar to what we already know on Xbox One consoles today, and that many of the planned changes would actually take place in the background. It is however quite possible that new features and design changes will be planned in the future as we approach the availability of this new Store for the public. It could notably include design elements that we see today in available applications such as the Xbox app (in beta) or the Xbox Game Bar on PC.
The Mercury application is available but you will get an error when trying to download it. It is noted in Xbox One update “beta” but we imagine that it should be open in the future to a few initiates, as is often the case with the Xbox Insiders program.
