In a world dominated by larger screens and 4K resolutions, the Sharp Aquos LC19D44U challenges our obsession with size and pixel density. This 19-inch LCD HDTV, with its modest 720p display, raises an interesting question: is bigger truly better, or can smaller screens still deliver a satisfying viewing experience? With features like an ATSC/NTSC/QAM tuner and a unique remote that doubles as a clock, the Aquos seems to cater to a niche audience that values simplicity and functionality over flashy specs. In this review, we're going to delve into whether this compact TV can hold its own in today's tech landscape or if it's simply a relic of a bygone era. Let's explore its strengths and weaknesses to see if this little screen has a place in our modern viewing habits.

System Experience

Getting this TV into my kitchen was a bit of an adventure, to say the least. I initially ordered a different model, but when it arrived, it wasn’t what I expected at all. I felt frustrated that I had to settle for something else due to time constraints, especially since I wanted it as a gift for my parents. The setup itself wasn’t too complicated; however, I did have to rotate the stand to fit it in my kitchen space, which was a minor inconvenience.

Viewing Experience

When it comes to picture quality, I must admit that I was pleasantly surprised. The HD clarity is fantastic, and it’s been a joy to watch basketball games while preparing dinner. The colors are vibrant and crisp, which really enhances the viewing experience. Despite the initial hiccup with the model, I found that the picture quality lived up to my expectations, making it a solid choice for the kitchen.

Audio Experience

On the flip side, the sound quality has been a bit of a letdown. The audio comes from small speakers positioned at the bottom, and I often find myself cranking up the volume just to hear dialogue clearly. It’s frustrating because I didn’t want to invest in any external speakers to keep the kitchen uncluttered, so I’m left dealing with a somewhat "tinny" sound that doesn’t match the impressive visuals.

Other Experience

Using the remotes has been a mixed bag. The small kitchen remote is surprisingly handy; it fits perfectly in the base and makes it easy to turn the TV on and off or adjust the volume. However, channel surfing with it can feel tedious, so I often rely on the full-size remote that we keep on the table. I appreciate the ability to program favorite channels, although I wish it were easier to find a single AV setting that worked well for all types of programming since I often have to toggle between them.

Conclusion

Pros:
The best part about this TV has to be its size and picture quality. It fits perfectly in our kitchen without taking up too much space, and the HD picture is truly a highlight. I also like the convenience of having two remotes, making it easier to control the TV depending on the situation.

Cons:
The most significant downside, in my opinion, is the sound quality. It’s frustrating to have such a great picture but struggle to hear the audio clearly without cranking it up. Additionally, the initial hassle with the vendor and the wrong TV being sent was a major headache, which cast a shadow over my overall experience.

Overall Evaluation:
Overall, I’d say this TV has its strengths and weaknesses. While I’m enjoying the clear, bright HD picture and the compact design fits well in my kitchen, the sound quality leaves much to be desired. If you're looking for a space-saving TV with great visuals and can overlook the audio issues, it might just work for you. However, be prepared for some potential bumps in the road with ordering and setup, as I experienced firsthand.

Setting it up was a breeze! We're using it in the kitchen, but here's the catch: you’ve got to twist the stand to move the TV around, which can be a bit annoying. The picture quality is pretty solid, but man, the sound is a letdown. We have to crank it all the way up just to hear anything!
