First Impressions
The Sharp AQUOS XLED TV has a modern design from the front. It looks like a premium TV and has thin bezels on all three sides, with a slightly thicker bezel on the bottom. The back of the TV is bulky and is made entirely of plastic. Some of the inputs face the sides, and they arent set into the TV, so theyre accessible when its wall-mounted. Theres a tie on the back of the TV as well as a channel on the back of the stand that can be used to help withcable management.
The TV has very good build quality. Theres some noticeable flex in the middle of the back that increases as you get closer to the VESA mounting points, but this doesnt cause any problems. The TV wobbles front to back and side to side, but the stand supports the TV well enough.

System Experience | The Sharp AQUOS XLED offers a smooth and user-friendly experience with its Google TV operating system. It boasts a fantastic selection of apps, making it easy to access a variety of content. The capability to cast from a phone and play videos from a USB stick adds to its versatility. However, the presence of ads throughout the smart interface, which cannot be disabled, may detract from the overall viewing experience. |

Viewing Experience | The Sharp AQUOS XLED TV impresses with its exceptional contrast and outstanding black uniformity when local dimming is enabled, providing deep blacks and vibrant highlights in dark viewing environments. The HDR color gamut is also commendable, with excellent coverage of the DCI-P3 and Rec. 2020 color spaces, although some color inaccuracies in reds, greens, and yellows are noted. While the TV demonstrates good lighting zone transitions, it struggles with very fast-moving content, leading to dimmer edges and noticeable haloing. Gray uniformity is generally good, though slight vignetting and a dirty screen effect may be apparent during specific content. The TV excels in reflection handling, effectively managing glare in bright rooms. However, it suffers from inadequate viewing angles, resulting in a washed-out image for those seated off-center, limiting its suitability for wide seating arrangements. Additionally, the BGR subpixel layout may lead to text clarity issues when used as a PC monitor, though there are workarounds available. Overall, the Sharp AQUOS XLED TV offers strong performance in key areas, particularly for dark room viewing and HDR content, but it has limitations in motion handling and viewing angles. |

Audio Experience | Overall Impression: The TV delivers clear dialogue and satisfactory frequency response, but its sound performance is limited by a lack of volume and bass. It struggles with distortion at higher volumes, making it less suitable for standalone use. For an enhanced audio experience, pairing it with a soundbar or surround sound system is advisable. |

Motion Smoothing | The Sharp AQUOS XLED delivers a commendable performance in handling low-quality content, effectively smoothing out artifacts while retaining detail. Its response time is impressive, minimizing blur during fast-moving scenes, although it does exhibit some black smearing in dark transitions. The use of pulse width modulation for backlight dimming may be problematic for sensitive viewers due to its noticeable flicker. While it offers motion interpolation to enhance low frame rate content, the execution is lacking, resulting in visible artifacts and screen-tearing during faster scenes. Overall, the TV demonstrates solid capabilities in certain areas, but also has notable limitations that could affect the viewing experience for some users. |

Connecting TV | The Sharp AQUOS XLED presents a solid option for gamers with its commendable input lag in Game Mode, ensuring a responsive gaming experience despite not having the lowest lag on the market. Its compatibility with the PS5 is robust outside of 1440p, utilizing HDMI ports 3 and 4 effectively. The TV supports popular HDR formats such as HDR10, HLG, and Dolby Vision, although it lacks support for HDR10+. The HDMI 2.1 bandwidth is restricted to those two ports, with HDMI 3 also serving as the eARC port, which may limit connectivity options for users with additional devices. It provides eARC functionality for high-quality audio transmission to compatible sound systems, supporting most major audio formats, though it is restricted to LPCM 2.0, lacking support for LPCM 7.1. Overall, the Sharp AQUOS XLED is a versatile choice with some limitations, particularly in port availability and audio format support. |
