Samsung The Frame 2024 Review: Is This Budget QLED TV Worth Your Money?

First Impressions

The Samsung The Frame 2024 is designed to look more like a framed piece of art than a traditional TV. It has black bezels, but you can buy covers that go over the bezels for a different color and finish. It also comes with the versatile One Connect Box (OCB) to connect all your devices and have one cable going to the TV to help keep your setup tidy.
The back of the TV is plain and made entirely of plastic. There aresquare slotsfor the Slim-Fit Wall Mount, and this TV comes with Samsung's One Connect Box (OCB), which is separate from the TV and houses the inputs. The OCB is versatile and helps keep your setup clean.
The TV has excellent build quality. Its made entirely of plastic, but it feels solid overall. Theres some wobble front to back when the TV is pushed, but this doesnt cause any issues. Its well-built overall, and there are no issues with quality control.

System Experience
Overall, the Samsung The Frame 2024 offers a robust and user-friendly experience with its updated Tizen interface. The smooth navigation and full-page app display enhance usability, making it easy to find and access content. The inclusion of the Art Store adds a unique feature for art enthusiasts, although the subscription model for additional artwork may be a drawback for some users. The ability to upload personal photos and the extensive app selection further enhance its functionality. However, the presence of ads within the interface, despite the option to limit targeted ads, may detract from the overall experience for some consumers. Overall, the TV combines aesthetic appeal with practical features, catering well to those looking for both entertainment and art display capabilities.

Viewing Experience
The Samsung The Frame 2024 presents a mixed overall impression. While it excels in color gamut and reflection handling, offering good performance in bright environments, it struggles with contrast due to the absence of a local dimming feature, resulting in raised black levels and light bleed in dark scenes. The viewing angle is mediocre, leading to washed-out colors for off-center viewers, which diminishes its effectiveness in Art Mode. Additionally, while gray uniformity is commendable, the screen displays noticeable inconsistencies in brightness across its surface. The BGR subpixel layout may also present challenges for PC use, impacting text clarity. Overall, the TV showcases strengths in certain areas but falls short in crucial aspects of picture quality.

Audio Experience
Overall Impression: The Samsung The Frame 2024 offers a well-balanced sound profile that ensures clear dialogue at moderate listening levels, making it suitable for casual viewing. However, its limited bass response and inability to reach high volumes without noticeable distortion detract from the audio experience, requiring users to keep the volume at lower levels for optimal sound quality.

Motion Smoothing
The Samsung The Frame 2024 delivers a mixed performance in terms of picture quality and motion handling. Its low-quality content smoothing is decent, effectively preserving detail, though it struggles with noticeable macro blocking in dark scenes. While it excels in response time and minimizes motion blur for fast-moving objects, it suffers from slow transitions in dark scenes, leading to black smearing. The use of pulse-width modulation for backlight dimming introduces flicker that may be problematic for sensitive viewers, with varying flicker rates depending on the picture mode. The optional motion interpolation feature provides some improvement for slower scenes but exhibits noticeable artifacts and can falter in faster scenes. Overall, this TV offers some strengths but also has significant limitations that may affect the viewing experience.

Connecting TV
The Samsung The Frame 2024 offers a highly responsive gaming experience with incredibly low input lag in Game Mode, making it an excellent choice for gamers who prioritize immediate feedback during gameplay. Its compatibility with high resolutions and refresh rates, such as 1440p @ 120Hz and 4k @ 120Hz, ensures that it can handle the latest gaming consoles effectively. The inclusion of features like Auto Low Latency Mode and support for HDMI Forum VRR enhances the overall gaming performance.

However, the TV does have some limitations, including the inability to use 1440p @ 60Hz in Game Mode, which results in higher input lag when set to Movie mode. Additionally, while it supports HDR10+, the lack of Dolby Vision could be a drawback for some users, given its broader industry support. The audio capabilities are somewhat mixed, with support for various Dolby Digital formats but a notable absence of DTS formats, which may disappoint those who rely on Blu-ray for high-quality audio. Overall, the Samsung The Frame 2024 impresses with its gaming features but has a few limitations in audio and HDR support.

User Feedback

Pros:
• Great picture and performance for the price
• Decent Samsung app experience compared to competitors
• Matte finish reduces reflections, making it suitable for work and viewing
• Versatile for multi-use as a monitor with split-screen features
• Attractive design when displaying art

Cons:
• Lacking setup instructions that could ease the installation process
• Phillips head screws can be difficult to work with and may strip easily
• Bulk uploading art loses the matte border feature
• Confusing and busy user interface
• Potential quality control issues, such as a bowed TV

Overall Impression:
The Samsung Frame TV offers impressive picture quality and versatility, especially for those looking to integrate it into a workspace. However, the setup challenges, user interface issues, and potential quality control problems may deter some buyers. If you can navigate these drawbacks and ensure you receive a properly flat unit, it could be a worthwhile investment.
