First Impressions
The Samsung QN900D has a nice premium design. It has very thin bezels with a sleek metallic stand, making the TV look quite nice overall. From the back, the TV looks very similar to other premium Samsung TVs, like theSamsung QN900C 8k QLEDand theSamsung S95D OLED. It uses Samsung's One Connect Box, so only one cable goes into the TV, and you can place the box anywhere you want, giving you many options when it comes to cable management. This also means that there a no clips or channels for cables on the back of the TV forcable management, as most of the cables come out of the One Connect Box itself.
The Samsung QN900D has excellent build quality overall and is an improvement over theSamsung QN900C 8k QLED. Its not perfect, however, as theres noticeable wobble when pushed, but it settles quickly. Just like the QN900C, the back panel doesnt seem to be properly attached to the TV, and theres noticeable flex in the corners where thespeaker grillsare. Still, none of these will cause any issues in practice.

System Experience | The Samsung QN900D offers a fast and user-friendly experience with its 2024 Tizen OS, providing a broad selection of apps and easy content casting options. However, it does have a notable issue with input labeling, where switching from PC mode does not fully activate the features of other modes until the TV is reset. Additionally, while users can disable targeted ads, they cannot completely remove ads from the interface, which may detract from the overall experience. |

Viewing Experience | Overall, the Samsung QN900D delivers impressive performance with its strong local dimming capabilities, providing deep blacks and good contrast in dark environments. The effective black uniformity enhances the viewing experience, although some blooming is noticeable around bright elements. The color gamut is commendable, particularly in the DCI-P3 color space, but certain colors, especially greens and cyans, are undersaturated and inaccurate. While gray uniformity is generally good, there are minor issues with dark corners and a dirty screen effect in uniform color scenarios. The viewing angles are limited, leading to color shifting and washout, making it less ideal for wider seating arrangements. Reflection handling is excellent, minimizing glare, though rainbow smear can detract from the experience. The BGR subpixel layout may affect text clarity for PC use but does not impact video or gaming content. Overall, the QN900D stands out for its local dimming and black performance, though it has some color accuracy and viewing angle limitations. |

Audio Experience | The Samsung QN900D offers a well-balanced sound profile with clear dialogue, making it suitable for various viewing experiences. However, it lacks in bass production, which may affect the overall audio impact. While the TV maintains sound quality at maximum volume, some distortion is present at higher levels, though it performs satisfactorily at moderate volumes. Overall, it delivers a decent audio experience, albeit with some limitations in bass response. |

Motion Smoothing | The Samsung QN900D presents a mixed overall impression. It offers excellent response times for fast-moving content, minimizing blur, but struggles with black smearing during dark transitions. The content smoothing feature is mediocre, providing only passable detail preservation while addressing macro blocking in low-bitrate content. However, the use of pulse-width modulation for backlight dimming introduces flicker that may be bothersome for sensitive users, with varying frequencies depending on picture modes. The optional motion interpolation feature improves motion clarity in slower scenes but falls short in fast-moving scenarios, introducing distracting artifacts. Overall, while the TV has strong performance in specific areas, its limitations in flicker and motion handling may detract from the viewing experience for some users. |

Connecting TV | The Samsung QN900D TV delivers an impressive gaming experience with its remarkably low input lag of just 5.1ms when in Game Mode, ensuring a highly responsive interaction during gameplay. It supports advanced display technologies, featuring 240Hz at 4K through Display Stream Compression, alongside 1080p at 240Hz, making it well-suited for high-frame-rate gaming. The TV is fully compatible with PlayStation 5 capabilities, including 1440p at 120Hz and 4K at 120Hz, and offers seamless integration with features such as Auto Low Latency Mode and HDMI Forum VRR. While all four HDMI 2.1 ports provide substantial bandwidth, they are slightly limited to 40Gbps due to the One Connect box, which does not hinder performance with current devices. Additionally, the eARC support enhances audio quality by passing uncompressed sound to external systems, although it lacks support for common DTS formats. Overall, the Samsung QN900D is a high-performing TV that excels in gaming and connectivity features. |

• Convenient One Connect box that hides cords
• Minimal border design enhances screen appearance
• Compatibility with SmartThings for security system integration
• Numerous default apps available, including Samsung Internet and popular streaming services
• Impressive picture quality compared to previous models
Cons:
• Mediocre sound quality; external audio system recommended for best experience
• Roku software not fully updated for the 2024 model, limiting functionality
• Limited instructions provided, which may complicate initial setup for some users
• Bixby and Alexa integration may not appeal to all users; Google Assistant connectivity unclear
• Reports of issues with shipping and potential physical damage upon arrival
• High price point may not justify the overall value for some consumers
Overall Impression:
The TV impresses with its video quality and innovative design, particularly with the separate connection box that reduces weight and improves cable management. However, the mediocre sound quality and some software limitations detract from the experience. While it may excel in visuals, potential buyers should weigh the high price against the challenges in setup and audio performance, particularly if they are coming from brands like Sony. Overall, it offers a solid option for those prioritizing picture quality over sound and software ease-of-use.
