First Impressions

The Samsung UN65DU8000FXZA looks good for an entry-level model. It's a thin TV with slim bezels on three sides and a slightly thicker one on the bottom. Overall, it looks premium.
The back of the TV is identical to theSamsung CU8000. Its made entirely out of plastic and has etched horizontal lines. There are two ports that directly face the back and a cutout where youll find the rest of the inputs, so these can be hard to reach if you have the TV wall mounted. The TV has channels on the back and comes with a clip that can be attached to either foot forcable management.
The Samsung DU8000 has mediocre build quality. Its made entirely of plastic, and theres some wobble from front to back, but the TV recovers quickly. Theres also some flex on the back of the TV that increases near the VESA mounting points, but this doesnt cause any issues. However, theres a large gap between the area where thescreen meets the border. We dont know if this is isolated to our unit, but it's concerning.

Overall Impression: The TV offers a solid viewing experience with the 2024 version of Samsung's Tizen OS, providing a fast and user-friendly interface. While it lacks some high-end features like TV to Mobile and Ambient Mode+, it still supports the popular Multi View feature. Although ads appear on the home screen and cannot be fully disabled, the extensive app selection, including all major streaming services, makes it easy to access a wide range of content.

Viewing Experience
The Samsung DU8000 presents itself as a budget-friendly television with a few notable strengths and weaknesses. It features good native contrast and an impressive black uniformity, although its lack of local dimming affects the overall performance, particularly with bright highlights that can wash out the image. The color gamut is decent, with strong coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, but accuracy can be an issue, particularly with reds and blues. While the gray uniformity is acceptable, there are concerns regarding the viewing angle, as color and brightness diminish significantly when viewed off-center. Reflection handling is satisfactory, but direct light sources can lead to noticeable reflections. Additionally, the BGR subpixel layout may hinder text clarity for PC use, though it does not impact video or gaming content. Overall, the Samsung DU8000 offers a solid performance for casual viewing but has limitations that may affect the experience for more discerning users.

Audio Experience
Overall Impression: The TV offers a well-balanced sound at moderate volume levels, making it suitable for quiet environments. However, its mediocre frequency response and lack of bass may not satisfy those seeking a more dynamic audio experience. Distortion becomes noticeable at higher volumes, limiting its performance in louder settings.

Motion Smoothing
The Samsung DU8000 TV presents a mixed overall impression. While it excels in preserving detail and has a commendable response time for fast motion clarity, it struggles significantly with low-quality content smoothing and dark scene transitions, leading to noticeable blur and black smearing. The use of pulse-width modulation for backlight dimming introduces flicker that may be problematic for sensitive viewers, with varying levels of flicker depending on picture mode and settings. Although there is optional motion interpolation, it only partially mitigates the issues with smoothing, particularly in faster scenes where artifacts and screen tearing become apparent. Overall, the TV shows potential but is hindered by several performance shortcomings.

Connecting TV
The Samsung DU8000 TV delivers a commendable gaming experience with its incredibly low input lag in Game Mode, particularly when connected to a game console. This feature allows for a responsive and enjoyable gaming environment. However, achieving optimal performance requires setting the input to PC mode for a chroma 4:4:4 signal, which limits the resolution to 4k @ 60Hz, as 1440p @ 60Hz is not supported in Game Mode. The TV's Auto Low Latency Mode enhances convenience by automatically switching to Game Mode when a gaming console is detected.

The 85-inch variant offers improved capabilities, including support for 4k @ 120Hz and Variable Refresh Rate (VRR), making it more versatile for gamers seeking higher refresh rates. The inclusion of eARC support allows for high-quality audio transmission to external audio systems, although the lack of DTS format support may be a drawback for users who frequently utilize Blu-ray media.

Overall, while the DU8000 excels in providing low input lag and good gaming features, its limitations in resolution settings and audio format support may affect some users' experiences.

User Feedback

Pros:
• Stunning picture quality with vibrant colors and deep contrasts
• Object Tracking Sound (OTS) enhances immersive audio experience
• Intuitive smart features with easy access to popular streaming services
• Built-in voice control simplifies navigation
• Sleek, slim design fits well in any room
• Excellent value for a 4K experience

Cons:
• Basic remote control with limited features
• Difficulty handling lower quality video formats (480p and below)

• Occasional issues with the TV turning on by itself

Overall Impression:
The SAMSUNG 55-Inch Class 4K Crystal UHD DU8000 Series Smart TV offers an impressive viewing experience with outstanding picture quality and innovative sound features. While there are some drawbacks, particularly with the remote and lower-quality video playback, its strengths far outweigh the negatives. It represents a great value for those seeking a high-quality 4K TV without a hefty price tag. Highly recommended for both casual viewers and cinephiles alike.
