Samsung CU7000 UHD Review: Is This the Right Choice for Your Home Entertainment?

First Impressions

The TV looks good for a budget model. Its thicker than theSamsung CU8000but has thin bezels, and its textured plastic feels good to the touch. Overall, this doesnt feel like a budget model.
Like many other Samsung models, the back of the Samsung 65CU7000D is made of plastic and textured with etched horizontal lines. The TV comes with a clip that you can install on either foot to help withcable management. Unlike theSamsung CU8000, all three HDMI ports are found within a cutout on the back. A mounting arm is recommended, as the inputs are otherwise hard to reach if the TV is wall-mounted.
The Samsung UN65CU7000FXZA has decent build quality. Its made of plastic, feels good to the touch, and looks good. Its thicker than theSamsung CU8000but doesn't flex nearly as much when you shake the panel, which is likely helped by the added thickness, so it feels sturdier. The feet are made of plastic and feel cheap, but they hold the TV well.

System Experience
The Samsung CU7000 65 presents a solid option for consumers looking for a budget-friendly TV that still offers a decent smart experience. It runs on the 2023 version of Samsung's Tizen OS, albeit with a simplified feature set and reduced animations for improved performance. The inclusion of MultiView is a notable highlight, enabling users to watch multiple sources at once. Additionally, the TV boasts a wide array of apps, covering all major streaming services, which enhances its versatility for entertainment. However, the presence of ads on the home screen, with no option to disable them, may detract from the overall experience for some users. Overall, the CU7000 delivers good functionality for its price point, but with some limitations to consider.

Viewing Experience
Overall Impression: The Samsung Crystal UHD CU7000 is a TV that offers adequate contrast and impressive black uniformity, making it suitable for dark scenes. However, its lack of local dimming results in washed-out dark scenes when bright highlights are present, limiting its performance in high-contrast situations. The color gamut is only okay, with undersaturated colors and inaccuracies in the wider Rec. 2020 space, particularly for greens, purples, and reds. While gray uniformity is satisfactory, it suffers from some patchiness. The viewing angle is sub-par, making it less ideal for wide seating arrangements, and the reflection handling is decent but better suited for darker environments. Additionally, the BGR subpixel layout may affect text clarity when used as a PC monitor. Overall, while it has strengths in certain areas, the TV falls short in critical aspects such as color accuracy and viewing flexibility.

Audio Experience
Overall Impression: The TV's audio performance is underwhelming, characterized by a middling frequency response and a low maximum volume that limits its usability for loud listening. As the volume increases, sound quality deteriorates, making it less ideal for those who prefer a more immersive audio experience. Additionally, the lack of bass and noticeable distortion at both moderate and maximum volume levels further detracts from its overall sound quality.

Motion Smoothing
Overall Impression: The TV exhibits a mixed performance, particularly with content processing and motion handling. While it maintains good detail preservation, the low-quality content smoothing results in noticeable macro-blocking. The response time is commendable, but the poor transitions in dark scenes lead to ghosting, which may detract from the viewing experience. Additionally, the use of pulse width modulation for backlight dimming introduces flicker that could be bothersome for sensitive users. Although it offers decent interpolation for lower-frame rate content, issues like artifacting and haloing become evident during fast-paced scenes. Overall, the TV presents a combination of strengths and weaknesses that may influence its suitability for various viewing preferences.

Connecting TV
The Samsung CU7000D 65 TV delivers an impressive performance with notably low input lag, especially in Game Mode, which enhances the gaming experience. Its automatic switching to Game Mode when a console is detected ensures minimal latency during gameplay. However, it is limited to a 60Hz refresh rate, which restricts its capability to support 4K gaming at higher frame rates on consoles like the PS5. The TV features eARC support and can handle all Dolby audio formats, making it suitable for high-quality sound transmission. However, it falls short in supporting DTS formats, which may disappoint users who frequently use DVDs and Blu-rays. Overall, the TV is well-suited for gaming due to its low input lag but has limitations regarding audio format compatibility and refresh rate.

User Feedback

Pros:
• Phenomenal high definition picture quality
• Great sound quality
• Reasonable price for the value
• Solar charging remote that doesn’t require batteries
• Simple and user-friendly operation
• Slim design allows for wall mounting

Cons:
• Small remote with limited buttons
• Combined volume control buttons can be confusing
• Lack of information about infrared receiver for universal remote compatibility
• Smart TV features require a Samsung account, limiting usage for some users

Overall Impression:
This TV offers exceptional picture and sound quality at a competitive price, making it an excellent choice for consumers seeking value. However, the remote design presents usability challenges that may detract from the overall experience for some users. Despite this, the solar charging feature and ease of operation contribute to its appeal, making it a highly recommended product for those who prioritize picture quality and simplicity.
