The LG 65QNED85TUA looks alright from a style perspective. Its bezels are pretty thick, so it doesnt look very sleek like other similarly priced models from other brands. Its a pretty basic design and doesn't look very premium. The back of the TV is made from plastic. All of the inputs are on the left side of the TV when facing the front, but theyre in a recessed cutout that makes them hard to access if you have the TV mounted to a wall. Theres a clip on the back, and each foot has a channel to funnel cables through to help withcable management.
The TV has decent build quality overall. There are no issues with quality control, but the TV is almost made entirely of plastic and doesn't use any premium materials, so it looks and feels a bit cheap.

System Experience | Overall Impression: The LG QNED 85 Series TV offers a user-friendly experience with its fast and customizable webOS interface, which includes support for user profiles and a solid app selection. However, it does have a notable bug related to VRR handshaking that requires manual intervention to resolve. While the Home Settings menu allows for a cleaner home screen by removing ads, ads remain on the apps page, which may detract from the overall aesthetic. Despite these issues, the ability to cast content and play videos from USB enhances its versatility as a smart TV. |

Viewing Experience | The LG QNED85T presents a mixed overall impression. It offers decent native contrast, but its performance with local dimming is lackluster, as it fails to significantly enhance black levels, resulting in noticeable blooming and raised blacks during bright scenes. The TV's edge-lit design contributes to poor lighting zone transitions, which can be distracting during rapid highlight movements. While it boasts a wide color gamut with excellent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, color accuracy is generally poor, leading to undersaturation. Gray uniformity is commendable, but black uniformity suffers, displaying a cloudy and bluish tint. The inadequate viewing angles further limit its usability for larger seating arrangements, as color and gamma shift significantly off-center. Reflection handling is decent for indirect light, but direct reflections can be distracting. The BGR subpixel layout is a consideration for PC use, potentially affecting text clarity. Overall, the LG QNED85T has strengths in certain areas but falls short in critical aspects like blooming, color accuracy, and viewing angles, making it a less favorable choice for a broad range of viewing scenarios. |

Audio Experience | The LG 85 Series QNED delivers a mixed audio experience. At low volume levels, the sound is well-balanced, facilitating clear dialogue. However, as volume increases, the sound quality deteriorates significantly, leading to an unbalanced audio performance where dialogue becomes difficult to understand. The TV lacks bass, resulting in minimal low-end sound, and overall loudness is limited. Additionally, distortion becomes prominent at higher volume settings, detracting from the listening experience. Overall, the audio performance of this TV is subpar, particularly at moderate to high volume levels. |

Motion Smoothing | The LG 85 Series QNED offers a mixed performance in terms of motion handling and content smoothing. While it effectively reduces artifacts in low-quality content and boasts a commendable response time, it still experiences noticeable blurring with fast-moving objects and some black smearing during dark scene transitions. The use of pulse width modulation for backlight dimming may introduce flicker, which can be bothersome for sensitive viewers, particularly at different frequencies depending on local dimming settings. Additionally, the motion interpolation feature shows varying effectiveness; it performs adequately with slower scenes but struggles significantly with faster action, leading to distracting artifacts. Overall, the TV delivers good detail preservation but has limitations in motion clarity and responsiveness. |

Connecting TV | The LG 85 Series QNED offers an impressive gaming experience, particularly when using the Game Optimizer setting, which delivers exceptionally low input lag. This responsiveness is ideal for gamers looking for a competitive edge. The TV's compatibility with the latest gaming features, such as 1440p @ 120Hz and 4k @ 120Hz, along with HDMI Forum VRR and Auto Low Latency Mode, enhances its appeal for current-generation consoles and high-end gaming PCs. It supports the full 48Gbps bandwidth of HDMI 2.1 across all four HDMI ports, allowing seamless integration of multiple high-bandwidth devices. Additionally, the inclusion of eARC ensures high-quality audio output to compatible receivers or soundbars. However, it is worth noting that the TV does not support Dolby Vision or HDR10+, which may be a consideration for those prioritizing advanced HDR formats. Overall, the LG 85 Series QNED is a strong choice for gamers seeking responsiveness and compatibility with modern gaming technology. |
