First Impressions
The LG 65QNED85TUA looks alright from a style perspective. Its bezels are pretty thick, so it doesnt look very sleek like other similarly priced models from other brands. Its a pretty basic design and doesn't look very premium. The back of the TV is made from plastic. All of the inputs are on the left side of the TV when facing the front, but theyre in a recessed cutout that makes them hard to access if you have the TV mounted to a wall. Theres a clip on the back, and each foot has a channel to funnel cables through to help withcable management.
The TV has decent build quality overall. There are no issues with quality control, but the TV is almost made entirely of plastic and doesn't use any premium materials, so it looks and feels a bit cheap.

System Experience | Overall Impression: The LG QNED 85 Series TV offers a user-friendly and customizable smart interface with the 2024 version of webOS, featuring fast performance and support for user profiles. It provides a clean home screen by allowing the removal of ads and suggested content. However, a notable drawback is the occasional VRR handshaking issue that requires manual intervention to resolve. The TV also boasts a robust selection of apps, along with convenient options for casting and USB playback, enhancing the overall viewing experience. |

Viewing Experience | The LG QNED85T offers a mixed performance across various aspects. It features a decent native contrast ratio, but its local dimming capabilities do not significantly enhance black levels, leading to raised blacks in scenes with bright highlights. The blooming performance is mediocre, with noticeable blooming around bright elements, particularly when local dimming is set to high. Although it supports a wide color gamut, color accuracy is lacking, exhibiting undersaturated and inaccurate colors across the board. The TV presents great gray uniformity, though there are minor issues with dirty screen effect and slight darkness at the edges. Black uniformity is mediocre, with a tendency to appear cloudy and bluish without local dimming, but some improvement is noted with it enabled. Viewing angles are inadequate, leading to gamma and color shifts when viewed off-center, while reflection handling is only decent, particularly with direct reflections. Lastly, the BGR subpixel layout may impact text clarity for PC use, but overall color separation is good. The LG QNED85T demonstrates a blend of strengths and weaknesses, particularly in contrast and color performance, making it a viable option for specific viewing conditions but with notable limitations. |

Audio Experience | The LG 85 Series QNED presents a mixed overall impression primarily due to its audio performance. While the sound is well-balanced at low volume levels, facilitating clear dialogue, it significantly falters at moderate and high volumes, where dialogue becomes difficult to comprehend. The lack of bass and overall low loudness further detracts from the viewing experience. Additionally, the distortion becomes increasingly noticeable as the volume is raised, particularly at maximum levels, making it a distracting element. Overall, the sound quality does not meet expectations, especially for a television of this caliber. |

Motion Smoothing | Overall Impression: The LG 85 Series QNED presents a mixed performance in motion handling and content processing. While it effectively reduces artifacts in low-quality content and boasts a commendable response time, it struggles with motion blur during rapid action sequences and exhibits black smearing in dark transitions. The use of pulse width modulation for backlight dimming introduces flicker, which may be bothersome for sensitive viewers, with varying frequencies depending on local dimming settings. Although its motion interpolation feature offers some enhancement for slower scenes, it falls short with fast-moving content, leading to noticeable artifacts and haloing. Overall, while the TV has strengths in certain areas, there are significant limitations that may affect the viewing experience, particularly for fast-paced content. |

Connecting TV | The LG 85 Series QNED delivers an impressive gaming experience with exceptionally low input lag in Game Optimizer mode, enhancing responsiveness for gamers. It fully supports the capabilities of the PS5, including high resolutions and refresh rates, and features HDMI 2.1 across all four ports, accommodating multiple high-bandwidth devices. Additionally, its support for eARC ensures seamless integration with audio equipment for high-quality sound. However, it does lack support for Dolby Vision and HDR10+, which may limit its appeal for those seeking advanced HDR formats. Overall, the TV excels in gaming performance and connectivity, making it a strong choice for gamers. |
