LG Display Unveils 4th Gen OLED Panels at CES 2025 with Record-Breaking Brightness

At CES 2025, LG Display surprised attendees by not showcasing its highly anticipated next-gen OLED solutions. Instead, the company officially revealed its latest 4th Gen OLED panels on January 16. These panels boast an industry-leading peak brightness of 4000 nits, setting a new benchmark for display technology.

While LG Display kept a low profile during the event, LG Electronics' LG G5 TV and Panasonic's Z95B TV have already confirmed they will feature this cutting-edge OLED panel. Most of the key specifications were also disclosed ahead of the official launch. According to LG Display, the 4th Gen OLED panels deliver a 33% increase in brightness compared to their predecessors. The panels are specifically optimized for the AI TV era, addressing the growing demand for superior picture quality. LG Display proudly claims this is the first OLED display in the industry to achieve a peak brightness of 4000 nits (Note: 1 nit equals the brightness of one candle per square meter).

Primary RGB Tandem Technology: The Game-Changer

The core innovation behind the new OLED panels lies in the Primary RGB Tandem structure. This technology stacks independent RGB elements to emit light. Unlike the previous three-layer tandem structure, the Primary RGB Tandem adds two blue element layers and separate red and green element layers, forming a four-layer tandem structure. This breakthrough significantly enhances peak brightness performance.

Enhanced Color Brightness and Energy Efficiency

In addition to peak brightness, the 4th Gen OLED panels also achieve a new milestone in color brightness, reaching up to 2100 nits—a 40% improvement over the previous generation's 1500 nits. To address the increased power consumption of AI TVs, the new panels also make strides in energy efficiency. For example, a 65-inch panel is approximately 20% more energy-efficient than its predecessor while maintaining lower panel temperatures.

Revolutionary Anti-Reflection Technology

LG Display has developed a specialized film/coating technology to tackle environmental light reflection. This innovation reduces 99% of internal and external light reflections, ensuring perfect black levels even in bright midday environments (500 lux). As a result, the panel is hailed as the first display to overcome traditional viewing environment limitations.

User-Centric Features for Eye Comfort

The 4th Gen OLED panels also incorporate user-friendly technologies, offering a differentiated viewing experience. For instance, the blue light emission has been reduced to 45%, significantly lower than the 70-80% levels found in LCD panels. This reduction helps protect users' eye health during prolonged viewing sessions.

Future Plans: Expanding to Gaming OLED

Looking ahead, LG Display plans to gradually integrate its Primary RGB Tandem technology into its Gaming OLED product line, targeting the premium gaming market. These panels will include the world's fastest display panels and adjustable-curvature curved panels, delivering an unparalleled visual experience for gamers.
