LG has announced its "first gaming laptop", the UltraGear 17G90Q. This 17-inch laptop is driven by a combination of the 11th generation Intel Tiger Lake H CPU and NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3080 Max-Q graphics card, and can be configured with 32GB of memory and 1TB of storage.
LG is no stranger to making laptops, but its previous models usually focused on office efficiency rather than providing top-notch gaming experience. For example, the LG Gram 17 we looked at earlier this year is a very practical and lightweight work machine, but its lack of a powerful dedicated GPU means it is definitely not a game console.
LG also listed two laptops equipped with NVIDIA GPUs on its website, but both are low-power GTX 1650s. In contrast, the RTX 3080 in the new UltraGear 17G90Q is the fastest GPU currently provided by NVIDIA for laptops. Other specifications include a 1080p IPS display with a 300Hz refresh rate, a 93Wh battery, an RGB keyboard, and a fingerprint sensor on the power button. And a 1080p webcam. Its shell is made of aluminum, and the body color is purple-gray.
Although LG UltraGear 17G90Q is prepared for gaming, it is still equipped with a large number of data ports. There are two USB-C ports (including one USB 4), two USB-A ports, a headphone jack, HDMI port, Ethernet, and a micro SD card slot. Charging is handled through a dedicated DC input interface.
Pricing for 17G90Q has not yet been announced, but LG said it will announce more details at CES on January 4. It will first be released in the United States and South Korea in early 2022.
