We often see friends on the Internet saying that the TV is leaking light, that is backlight bleed. So what is TV backlight bleed? Here we will explore the reasons for the light leakage of smart LCD TVs. If you have encountered such problems and don't know how to deal with them, let's learn together.

1. What is TV backlight bleed?

Everyone knows that the liquid crystal itself does not emit light, so to make the LCD emit light, it is necessary to install a backlight assembly behind the screen. Now LCD TVs have all used LEDs as backlight sources. The simple backlight structure is shown in the figure below;

First of all, structurally speaking, the larger the screen, the more difficult it is to control the flatness of the reflective film, light guide plate, and diffusion film, which will directly affect the uniformity of the backlight.

Secondly, the LED itself will heat up when it is working, which will cause the reflective film to be deformed by heat, and will also cause uneven backlighting.

Finally, slight tolerances or screw torque differences between the backlight components are also prone to occur during the assembly process, thereby affecting the backlight uniformity. That is to say, this kind of structure using LCD screen + LED backlight cannot completely avoid the phenomenon of uneven backlight (that is, backlight bleed).

2. What is the reason for TV backlight bleed?

There are two main reasons why TVs leak light:

(1) When the quality of the panel is not good, or an accident occurs during the handling process, the panel is bent and deformed, which will cause serious backlight bleed problems. If this condition is detected before leaving the factory, it is usually prohibited from leaving the factory.

(2) Another reason is that when the TV is assembled, the fit between the frame and the panel is not high, resulting in slight light leakage. However, it is generally difficult to detect with the naked eye, and the phenomenon of backlight bleed can only be seen in a completely dark environment.

Although light leakage will not affect the basic functions of the display itself such as brightness, response speed, and lifespan. Slight backlight bleed is also acceptable, but when the light leakage is serious, some special screen displays may have poor results.

3. How to reduce TV backlight bleed?

(1). Don't turn off the lights when watching TV. Turning on the light can make the light leakage appear to be significantly reduced, and most of the original light leakage gray spots will turn black. This is because the pupil shrinks when the light is turned on, just like the camera's aperture shrinks, and it is no longer sensitive to weak light.

(2). Try to lower the brightness of the TV, increase the contrast, and increase the color, which can effectively improve the phenomenon of light leakage. If there is a backlight adjustment and the backlight is lowered at the same time, the effect of backlight bleed can also be reduced.

If the backlight bleed of your TV is too serious and the above methods cannot solve it, you can find your TV after-sales service to solve it.
