First Impressions

The Hisense U6N is pretty much identical to last year'sHisense U6/U6K. It has a simple design with thin bezels on the top and sides and a slightly thicker bezel on the bottom.
Besides the darker color, the back of the TV is identical to last yearsHisense U6/U6K. The top section is metallic, and the section that houses the inputs is made of plastic. Most of the inputs are side-facing and easy to access if you have the TV mounted flush to the wall. However, the HDMI 4, Ethernet, and digital audio out ports located on the back arent easily accessible if you have it wall-mounted. Unfortunately, the TV doesn't come with any clips to help withcable management.
The TV has alright build quality. Its mostly made of plastic that feels cheap, so it wobbles front to back in both feet positions when pushed, and theres quite a bit of flex on the back of the TV towards the middle and around the inputs. There are no major issues with quality control, but theres somedebrisbehind the panel of our unit thats distracting with some content.

Viewing Experience
The Hisense U6N is a television that excels in contrast, delivering deep blacks in dark environments, especially with local dimming enabled. It shows strong HDR color performance, with excellent coverage of the DCI-P3 color space, though it struggles with very saturated colors in the wider Rec. 2020 space. While the black uniformity is commendable with local dimming, the overall gray uniformity and blooming performance leave room for improvement, especially noticeable during fast-moving content. The viewing angles are inadequate, limiting its suitability for wide seating arrangements due to color and brightness loss off-center. Reflection handling is satisfactory for indirect light but less effective against direct reflections. The BGR subpixel layout may affect text clarity for PC use, although it does not impact video quality. Overall, the Hisense U6N stands out for its contrast and HDR capabilities, but some performance aspects may not meet the expectations of all users.

Overall Impression: The TV features clear dialogue at moderate volume levels and exhibits excellent distortion performance, maintaining clarity even at higher volumes. However, it struggles with frequency response, particularly in bass output, and can become unbalanced when the volume is increased. Its limited loudness makes it best suited for quieter environments.

Motion Smoothing
The Hisense U6N presents a mixed overall impression. While it excels in preserving details and boasts an excellent response time that minimizes blur in fast-moving content, it falls short in handling low-quality content smoothing and struggles with black smearing during dark scene transitions. Additionally, although the backlight dimming via PWM operates at a high frequency, potentially reducing flicker sensitivity, it still may not be ideal for all viewers. The motion interpolation feature, while available, is ineffective, particularly in faster scenes, leading to noticeable artifacts and inconsistencies. Overall, the TV offers commendable strengths but also significant weaknesses that could affect the viewing experience.

Connecting TV
The Hisense U6N TV delivers an excellent gaming experience with its incredibly low input lag in PC/Game Mode, ensuring quick responsiveness that enhances gameplay. It supports 4K resolution at 60Hz and 1080p at 120Hz, making it suitable for modern gaming consoles like the PS5. While it offers Variable Refresh Rate (VRR) for smoother visuals, there are limitations with VRR functionality at 1080p @ 120Hz. The Auto Low Latency Mode simplifies the user experience by automatically optimizing settings for gaming.

However, the TV is restricted to HDMI 2.0 bandwidth across all ports, which limits its capabilities compared to models with HDMI 2.1. Additionally, it only features an ATSC 1.0 tuner, meaning it cannot receive 4K content over the air. On the positive side, the U6N supports eARC, allowing for high-quality audio transmission to compatible sound systems, and handles all major audio formats, ensuring broad compatibility. Overall, the Hisense U6N is a solid option for gamers seeking responsiveness, but it may not meet the needs of those looking for the latest HDMI features or 4K over-the-air viewing.

User Feedback

Pros:
• Great value especially for the size of it.
• Picture quality is wonderful after some adjustments (just turn off Motion Plus)!
• Switch between inputs easily and automatically.
• Dolby Atmos built-in is a definite plus!

Cons:
• Somewhat laggy user interface, as usual with most smart TV operating systems.
• Fear of "soap opera effect" being a permanent feature (it's not)!
• Limited internal memory for apps.

Overall Impression:
This TV offers excellent value, particularly given its size and price point. The picture quality is impressive after some adjustments, and the built-in Dolby Atmos sound enhances the viewing experience. While the user interface can be sluggish and there are concerns about memory limitations, these issues are common among smart TVs and do not significantly detract from the overall performance. For those willing to navigate the initial setup and settings, this Hisense TV is a solid choice.
