While the Xbox Series X and PlayStation 5 will be released at the end of the year, we are impatient to see the graphic rendering that the big productions of the two machines can achieve. The Redmond company is preparing to show its first party games in July; and the subject of the day is not about to drop the excitement.

Indeed, Kim Liberi, CTO of Epic Games, made several statements in the latest issue of the official magazine PlayStation UK. His remarks were taken up in the columns of the VGC site and relate in particular to the graphic part of the next games and the way in which the Unreal Engine 5 will achieve what he calls "forever dream".

Epic Games: Movie Quality Graphics on Xbox Series X and PS5

In-game “movie quality” graphics

The man explains that the next consoles will allow developers to use tools specific to movies in our games. He takes as an example the fact that the cinema has already used the Unreal Engine for years to conceptualize and visualize certain scenes and that last year, LucasFilm went even further. The Mandalorian series notably used the Epic engine for the final rendering of certain effects.

Thanks to Nanite technology , the complex resources of the films can be adjusted in real time without loss of quality in play, the engine "takes care of everything". The Unreal Engine 5 will also be an opportunity to introduce new gameplay mechanics, better AI or even improve physics.

The graphics and power of next-gen consoles will not only make games more immersive, but will also allow for entirely new gameplay concepts that can take advantage of fully dynamic environments and lighting, greatly improved physics, d more realistic artificial intelligence and richer multiplayer experiences.

These techniques will not only be used for large AAA productions, they will also allow smaller studios to work more efficiently.

Freelance developers tend to wear multiple caps

They are designers, artists, programmers and storytellers, and taking away the time they have to devote to the technical details of development allows them to spend more time on what makes their game fun and unique.

If you always have to take these statements with tweezers, you have to admit that the different technical demos of Unreal Engine 5 were pretty impressive. We can't wait to see the rendering that will be possible in games that use the Epic engine; like for example Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2 . The two giants still have things to show and the months of July and August promise many surprises.
